It’s got everything – great styling, three rows of half-leather seats, a 2.2 - litre turbo diesel engine, six-speed gearbox and four-wheel capability.
It is, to many eyes at least, quite ideal: a symbiosis of style, proportion and stance thanks to the addition of front and rear wide wings with integrated vents and bolt apertures, Kahn automatic gearbox, extended wheel arches, Chelsea Truck Company spare wheel cover, side vents and bonnet vents and Kahn 20” Mondial wheels; the very definition of style.
Yes, there is a culture shock: the first week with this car took some adjusting, but you soon realise there are very few faults – it just does things differently.
With the rather reasonable price-tag, you’d think it was a no-brainer. However, I’m going to use the p-word now – it’s got ‘personality’.
We got to really know the Defender, peeled back a few of its layers to understand it more and appreciated its quirks and its incredible strengths. For example, it cruises at 80mph; it’s surprisingly comfortable and quiet on the motorway. What other car gives you so much?
As for the interior, an opulent cabin is both comfortable and pleasing to the eye: hand crafted body hugging seats in quilted and perforated leather, leather steering wheel, Harris Tweed inserts and sharp instrumentation complete just one of many customisable packages that we offer.
The kids absolutely love being in it too, and their friends all asked for lifts back from school in it – that doesn’t happen if your mum or dad drives an Audi or a BMW.
For the driver however, once they get behind the wheel, they will feel absolutely unstoppable, and adventurous.
Imagine a dark night; it’s lashing with rain outside, the wind howling. As the storm briefly rages in your hallway, you deliberate whether to bear an essential journey. However, one look at the Defender, parked in your driveway, ensures you must take this chance and experience the thrill.....
You strap on your boots, grab the Defender keys, open your front door and run towards your Kahn Defender as your family look on aghast in the comfort of the home.
